Tower Health’s Reading Hospital has been recognized as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery by Healthgrades, a resource consumers use to find a hospital or doctor.

Reading Hospital said in a statement it is the only hospital in Pennsylvania to receive the award.

This achievement, in addition to others from Healthgrades for joint replacement, outpatient rotator cuff surgery and outpatient total knee replacement, reflects Reading Hospital’s dedication to clinical excellence, the hospital said.

It also distinguishes Reading Hospital, which also received the Joint Replacement Excellence Award from Healthgrades in Fall 2023, as one of the nation’s leading hospitals for outpatient orthopedic surgery, the hospital said.

“Our Orthopedic program is among the best in the country,” said ‘Dr. Charles Barbera, Reading Hospital president and CEO. “I commend the entire team for their extraordinary efforts.”

To identify the top-performing hospitals for outpatient orthopedic surgery, Healthgrades said it analyzed patient outcomes at short-term acute care facilities nationwide that offer critical orthopedic procedures in an outpatient environment, including back and neck surgery, knee replacement, hip replacement, and rotator cuff surgery.

“Reading Hospital exemplifies what it means to be a leader in outpatient orthopedics by delivering consistently superior outcomes across key outpatient procedures,” said Dr. Brad Bowman, chief medical officer and head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Patients having outpatient orthopedic surgery at Reading Hospital should feel confident in their decision to seek care from a facility with top marks in their procedure.”

As outpatient surgical volumes continue to grow, Healthgrades said it is proud to offer the industry’s only outcomes-based outpatient ratings to help patients identify the best care for their needs.
