Do You See Green or Blue? Take This Interactive Test to See How Your Color Perception Matches Up

It's leaving participants (including the test developer and his spouse) divided.

Color perception is different for all of us. Take the viral sensation that was " the dress " from back in 2015. While some viewers saw it as white and gold, others saw it as blue and black. And this new color perception test might just become the next big disagreement to take over the internet.

According to reporting by the Guardian , visual neuroscientist and programmer Dr. Patrick Mineault had this very argument with his wife, ophthalmologist Dr. Marissé Masis-Solano, over the color of a blanket in their house. While he perceived it as green, his wife saw it as blue. This disagreement led to the creation of his new website ismy.blue , allowing users to test their color perception on the spectrum between blue and green.

Taking the test is easy. Head over to the website where you’ll be prompted to select the color blue or green (whichever you think the shade looks like to you). The hues on the screen change from lighter and darker shades on each slide. After completing the test, you will see where your blue/green boundary appears and compare it to the other 1.5 million users who have already taken the test.

“I added this feature, which shows you the distribution, and that really clicked with people,” Mineault told the Guardian. “‘Do we see the same colors?’ is a question philosophers and scientists—everyone really—have asked themselves for thousands of years. People’s perceptions are ineffable, and it’s interesting to think that we have different views.”

Taking the test is a fun way to see how different we see the world in color. While people's responses tend to cluster around 175, when I took the test, my boundary is at hue 173. This means turquoise is blue for me, while others may see it as green. Two Real Simple editors who also took the test got 170 as their boundary, meaning they also see the world a little bluer like I do.
