It’s a truth of traveling that no matter how tightly you pack your clothes into your suitcase, at least a few items are bound to be wrinkled by the time you arrive at your destination. Luckily, portable irons exist, making it easy to smooth out items no matter where you are. The Nori Press Travel Steam Iron is an especially popular pick, and our Real Simple Selects team tested the device in our lab to see if it lives up to the hype.

Spoiler alert: it absolutely does. The handheld iron ( no board needed !) stands out for its unique hair straightener-like hinged design and compact, lightweight make; it clocks in at just 1.4 pounds and 14 inches long, so it’s super convenient to throw in your bag, much like a hair straightener. It uses steam to effectively get wrinkles out and can work on both sides of a garment at the same time, saving ample time and effort. It also heats up fast (37 seconds to be exact), includes six fabric-specific settings, and according to our testing, leaves no leakage or water marks behind.

When we tried out the iron for ourselves, we were particularly impressed by its maneuverability, with the cord staying out of the way and never getting stuck. The device is also quite comfortable to hold, and its straightener-style arms are long enough to reach the center of most garments. One thing to note is that it can be tricky to tell when the water is reaching its fill point, but the iron does helpfully include a feature that shows when the chamber needs refilling. Plus, it turns itself off after 10 minutes of non-use, so you don’t have to worry about accidentally leaving it hot.
