If you recently purchased Lactaid milk, be sure to check your refrigerator. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that “HP Hood LLC is recalling five SKUs of 96 oz containers of LACTAID Milk because the product may contain trace amounts of almond, which is not listed on the label.” This can potentially trigger a serious reaction for those who are allergic.

The recalled milks were shipped to retailers and wholesalers nationwide between 09/05/24—09/18/24. The states that were impacted by this shipment include Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virgina, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

The refrigerated Lactaid milk affected in this recall includes Lactaid Whole Milk, Lactaid 2% Milk, Lactaid 1% Milk, Lactaid Fat-Free Milk, and Lactaid 2% Calcium Enriched Milk. Each recalled product came in 96-ounce plastic containers with the expiration code 51-4109 P2.

The recalled products have several Best By Dates to look out for, including the following. To find the code and Best Buy Date, search the center-top area of the milk's plastic container.

The recall occurred after a “potential for trace amounts of almond” was found during a routine service. The FDA states that no illnesses have been reported from this recall so far.

According to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE), a nut allergy can “cause a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)” and can be unpredictable "with even small amounts ingested.” FARE recommends anyone who has a nut allergy to “keep an epinephrine delivery device with you at all times."

Those who purchased the impacted Lactaid products can return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you have any questions about this recall, contact Hood Consumer Affairs directly at 800-242-2423 Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
