With the season quickly turning from warm weather to chilly temps, it’s officially time to tuck those flip-flops and wedge sandals into storage and break out some fall footwear . At the top of the list are obviously boots , an autumn mainstay that comes in countless iterations. To help you look your best all season long—and to stay firmly within the zeitgeist—we consulted some styling pros about the fall boot trends they’re loving most.

    1. Mid-Calf Booties

Eclipsing ankle booties this season are mid-calf booties, which hit a little higher without feeling like too much. “These feel fresh and can be really flattering on the ankle. Plus, I especially love that it goes so well with the cropped wide leg pants trend,” says Sahra Brandt , personal stylist at Shop the City. “It tucks right under and you don't get any chilly ankles.”

    2. Leopard Print Boots

Animal prints are an autumn staple, but leopard in particular is enjoying a moment in the spotlight this season. “It does not matter if the boots are short, tall, heeled, or flat—anything leopard is the color and boot of the moment,” says Jennifer Johnson , fashion expert and owner of True Fashionistas. “You can wear it with the usual suspects like black or denim but get creative and wear it with pink or blue.” Brandt agrees, saying that she loves to see it with a denim midi skirt or dress, or maybe a black maxi dress with a daring split.

    3. Moto/Biker Boots

Calling anyone who’s seeking more of a daring edge this season! Biker boots, also known as moto boots, are your ticket. “What I think is fueling this trend is being able to add edgy elements to your outfit that will transform your look. Wearing biker boots with a fitted dress or flowy skirt will give you the edgy look you desire to stand out,” says personal stylist Tami Harrigan . Alternatively, you could double down and pair it with leather.

    4. Suede Boots

Soft and available in a range of neutrals, suede boots are a fall 2024 boot trend—and perennial favorite—that everyone can get in on. “I love this trend because suede goes with everything and it doesn't get scuffed up,” Johnson says. “When it gets a little worn, all you do is run a brush over it and it comes back looking like new.”

    5. Square Toed Boots

Dejeuné Harris, founder at Your Style Is Forever , says one of her favorite fall boot trends is the return of the square-toed boot. For so long, we’ve seen pointy-toed shoes dominate the style sphere, but it’s officially cool to be square. "I feel that comfort is pushing the trend,” Harris says. “I love them because they are practical and chic, imitating the natural shape of the foot, which allows for longer wear." They also nod to trends we saw in the ‘90s and early ‘00s, which are also enjoying a comeback.

    6. Chunky Platform Boots

Speaking of nostalgic fashion trends, chunky platform boots are officially back. “Now this is how you make a statement this fall,” says Nina Vargas , celebrity stylist. “Sky high platforms are giving major ’90s vibes and are here to stay. Thanks to Netflix’s Wednesday , the grunge goth look is back in full force, and we will be seeing it everywhere this fall. Not only is it functional and will keep you warm, it will be making a statement as you do so.”

    7. Heeled Boots

Heeled boots seemed to have disappeared for a hot minute, but they’ve cycled back into fashion’s good graces. “I am very thankful they are back,” Johnson says. “They give any outfit a more refined and ladylike look, which is coming back and having a moment."

    8. Cowboy Boots

Giddyup, cowboy. Western-inspired apparel is a definite autumn do, and you can start with a pair of cowboy boots. “They go with everything and are comfortable—they can be worn with jeans, dresses, or skirts,” says stylist Leah Wise . “I think cowboy boots tie in really well to the western and boho trend that we’re seeing right now with long flowy skirts, big studded belts, construction/work jackets, and suede.”
