Are you tired of your space? If a full renovation isn’t in your budget, that doesn’t mean you’re stuck, it just means you need to get creative. Making over a room doesn’t need to break the bank. Even with a small budget and limited DIY skills, it’s possible to change up a room's aesthetic. Here are seven ways to make over a room for $100 or less. Some of these decor ideas are even free (or pretty close to it).

    Swap Out Your Hardware

Those builder-grade handles and knobs surely make your kitchen look dated. But purchasing new hardware can cost under $100. Opt for something new and fresh like a gold or brass handle. Perhaps consider matte black hardware for a modern look. For the best value, look for multipacks of hardware. If you're switching out handles, measure the length of your current ones so that you can easy swap in the new ones without drilling holes in your cabinet fronts. This way, installing the new hardware takes just minutes.

    Repaint

Color impacts the mood of any room . If your walls are a boring beige or white, it’s time to pick up a can of paint and some supplies. All it takes is a weekend and a little bit of patience. Another great way to use paint is to paint just the moldings a bold, contrasting color.

    Install Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper

Especially good for powder rooms, peel-and-stick wallpaper is one of the greatest things to happen to decorating in the past decade. There’s a plethora of inexpensive peel-and-stick wallpaper out there that works with any home, whether it's traditional, contemporary, or modern. Best of all, you don’t need to paper the entire room. Even just an accent wall makes a major design impact.

    Get New Pillows

Replacing an entire sofa is expensive, but replacing your throw pillows can be cheap. You can buy a curated set with coordinated pillows or just find inexpensive pillows and mix and match them. You can also just replace the pillow covers, which may end up costing less than replacing the entire pillow. In addition to sofas, this also works for beds, accent chairs, and outdoor furniture.

    Pick Up Some New Bedding

Bedding is truly the centerpiece of a bedroom. While it can be expensive, it doesn’t have to be. So wait for a sale or consider buying a “bed in a bag,” which should have everything from sheets to a duvet or comforter. If you’re on a very limited budget, buying a new duvet and two shams will do the trick.

Shop Your Phone for Fresh Wall Art

Are you over those photos in your frames? Does your gallery wall feature wedding photos (and you've been divorced for five years)? Buying prints can be expensive but shopping your phone is free. Whether it’s that cute family shot you took last July 4th or that nearly professional photo you snapped at the Grand Canyon—it’s time to change up your walls with your own work. Get artistic and have fun with editing. Have the photos professional printed, then swap out what’s in your current frames.

You can also hit up the sale and clearance sections of stores like HomeGoods or local garage sales and buy art you don’t love in frames you do. Then swap out the art for your own creations.

    Rearrange Your Furniture

Want to make over a room with zero budget? It’s completely possible. Just rearrange your furniture and decor . This works really well in living rooms. Switch up the placement of your sofa or loveseat. Take that chair and move it from sofa-adjacent to catty-corner to the television. If you have a modular sofa, turn it from a straight sofa to an L-shaped one. The room will feel entirely different at no cost.
