"Look for a design that resonates with your style, and opt for a living finish to allow the piece to develop a timeworn beauty with age.”

On the other hand, if you have a more modern home or prefer hardware you can easily order online, Switzer suggests going with matte black or antique brass, which can be found at most hardware retailers. “These are really on-trend right now and contrast beautifully with bright or dark door colors.”
