Benjamin Moore Revealed Its Color of the Year 2025—and It’s the Most Soothing, Velvety Hue

The eagerly anticipated shade is Cinnamon Slate 2113-40 , a soft blend of plum and velvety brown.

The gorgeous color is the perfect blend of classic and contemporary, and because of this flexibility, it’s the ideal shade for nearly any home. “Cinnamon Slate is an inviting hue that offers enduring style and modern sensibility,” says Andrea Magno, director of color marketing and design at Benjamin Moore, in a press release issued by the brand. “Its depth and richness bring an air of approachability and sense of comfort throughout the home, making it a new favorite for years to come.” According to Magno, interest in saturated colors has grown significantly in recent years, especially more nuanced colors where “undertones add intricacy and dimension.”

We chatted with Hannah Yeo, manager of color marketing and development at Benjamin Moore, who points out that millennial gray has evolved to this point. “You can’t really describe this color without talking about its undertone,” she explains. “It looks brown at times, other times it looks plum, and sometimes it looks gray.” It’s truly a versatile neutral. And because there are hints of blue and red undertones, Yeo adds, it can easily complement a warm or cool palette .

The color is perfect for the change in season—the velvety finish gives off cozy vibes, just in time for fall. “It’s almost like a fabric you’re just curling up in and making yourself really comfortable,” Yeo says. It’s a color with a soothing familiarity to it. She poetically adds, “It’s like the friend you just met, but you wonder, ‘How have I not known you all the time? There’s a veil of nostalgia , but it’s not time-specific.”
