Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5 Trailer Breakdown

The trailer for Season 5 of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was released on Monday, August 19. Fans have been anxious to see what the ladies of RHOSLC have been up to since the jaw-dropping Season 4 finale. The two-minute teaser promised explosive fights, broken alliances, and a new Housewife to stir the pot.

Lisa Barlow, Heather Gay, Angie Katsanevas, Meredith Marks and Whitney Rose are all returning for Season 5. As well as Mary Cosby, who is back as a full-time Housewife after being a “friend of” last season.

When we last saw the women, they were recovering from the Reality Von Tease drama. In the finale, Heather discovered Housewife Monica Garcia had been harboring a dirty secret. She was the mastermind behind a popular Instagram gossip account called Reality Von Tease. The founding led to one of the most iconic Real Housewives scenes of all time. I think we all remember where we were when Heather said, “Receipts, proof, timelines, screenshots!”

While we wait for the premiere of Season 5, let’s unpack the first teaser together.

There is a new Housewife joining the RHOSLC ladies in Season 5

Fashion Maven Bronwyn Newport is the newest addition to the RHOSLC cast. According to a Bravo press release, the newbie’s wit is as sharp as her fashion sense. She was introduced to the group through Lisa, who in the trailer describes her as, “everything you could want in a friend.”

Brownyn was raised Mormon. However, Bravo reported that she was “excommunicated from the church when she got pregnant while attending BYU” (Brigham Young University). Add her to the list of RHOSLC cast members who have a complicated history with the LDS church. She raised her daughter, Gwen, as a single mother before marrying her husband Todd, who is 26 years older than her.

Lisa and Brownyn appear thick as thieves in the trailer but Browyn’s Bravo Bio teases Lisa may not have been the most supportive friend this season.

Heather teases a betrayal…

Tension seems to be at an all-time high this season. The trailer opened with a few soundbites of the women fighting.

In one soundbite, Heather says to one of her castmates, “Never in a million years, after everything we’ve been through, did I think that you would reach out to our sworn enemy.” It is unclear who exactly Heather is referring to but considering how the group left things with Monica, she may be the “sworn enemy” in question.

Some fans speculated Heather may have been talking about Jen Shah, who is currently serving her six-and-a-half-year prison sentence in Texas. Heather defended Jen for quite some time but has since cut ties with her former co-star. In the Season 4 finale, she revealed Jen was to blame for her mysterious black eye in Season 3.

It is also unclear who was on the receiving end of Heather’s blow-up. The editing made it look like it was Whitney Rose. According to a Bravo press release, Heather and Whitney made strides in improving their fractured relationship in Season 5. We also saw Heather spar a bit with Bronwyn in the trailer. Heather says in a confessional that she “does not trust” the new addition.

Heather and Mary’s friendship seems to be over

Mary has never been shy about her disdain for the cast of RHOSLC. She’s taken jabs at pretty much all of them, especially cousins Heather and Whitney. However, she always had a soft spot for Meredith and vice versa. The unlikely friendship both delighted and confused viewers.

Unfortunately, it looks as though the peace treaty is no more. In the teaser trailer, Mary and Meredith are seen fighting in multiple scenes. One snippet shows Mary calling her former friend “a sneaky, little snarky, little something” before demanding she leave her home. Another clip shows Mary calling out Meredith for playing the victim.

According to the press release, Mary developed a deep friendship with Angie this season. She also made amends with Heather and Whitney, which may come as a shock to fans. I know I was shocked to hear Whitney say she “loves the new Mary” in the teaser.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 5 trailer sees tensions rise between Angie K and Lisa

In the teaser, we saw Angie tell Lisa she’s been “a f*cking b*tch” to her lately. Yikes! These two were once close but it looks like the friendship may have soured. The press release teased that Angie made unsavory comments about Lisa’s parenting, which caused a rift in their relationship.

In addition to beefing with Angie, Lisa’s relationship with Whitney is still on thin ice. The two have always had a difficult relationship and it looks like that dynamic will continue in Season 5. In the teaser trailer, Whitney accuses Lisa of building her success “on the backs of other people.” Lisa retaliates by telling Whitney’s husband, Justin, that his wife is a liar. The drama between these two looks explosive and I can’t wait to find out more.
