Derek Hough Confused by Anna Delvey’s Dancing with the Stars Casting

The cast has been revealed! And Derek Hough is a little bit confused by the controversial Anna Delvey ’s inclusion in the upcoming Dancing with the Stars Season 33.

Derek was on Live With Kelly and Mark and talked with the pair about his thoughts on the new cast. And what he specifically thought of casting Anna, who is partnered with dancer Ezra Sosa.

Derek, a six-time mirrorball champion turned judge, definitely has an eye for talent and is excited about the new crop of dancers in this new season. Although he does admit, he was taken by surprise when he saw Anna among the new contestants.

From house arrest to a mirrorball championship?

In case you missed it, in 2019 Anna, also known as Anna Sorokin, was convicted of fraud. She was pretending to be a German heiress and racking up bills in prestigious hotels, restaurants, shops, and more.

After she was released from prison, Anna was placed under house arrest and fitted with an ankle monitor. That same monitor makes an appearance during the DWTS cast announcement.

“I did see Anna Delvey’s ankle bracelet,” Derek said. “She’s on house arrest I guess, but I guess she’s gonna be on ‘Dancing’…?”

When asked about what he thought about the casting, he shook his head and said that he didn’t understand the unexpected DWTS cast member. One thing he did know for sure he said was that the ankle bracelet was going to be “bedazzled for sure.”

Anna was given special permission to leave her home to join DWTS, according to the New York Post . And it looks like most news pieces about her do focus on her ankle accessory. While Derek joked about her bedazzling the piece, it looked like she was way ahead of him. She mentioned that she had previously decorated her ankle monitor with a rhinestone letter “A.”

In addition to Anna, the new DWTS cast has a unique combination of reality TV stars, an NFL player, an NBA player, actors, and Olympic athletes.
