Joan Vassos is starting to narrow down her suitors on The Golden Bachelorette Episode 4. While her season began with 24 men, Joan only had 11 remaining going into Episode 4. During Week 3, Joan had a difficult time after learning that her 92-year-old mother Mary was sick. Joan opened up to the men, who were all incredibly supportive of her. Thankfully, Mary quickly got better and Joan was able to start fresh during Week 4. Here’s everything that went down this week in case you missed it!

The Golden Bachelorette Episode 4 was filled with a mixture of laughs and tears. This week, Joan went on a hilarious group date in addition to two romantic one-on-one dates. Joan felt her connections with the men really started to grow strong this episode, after spending more time with them. Unfortunately, tragic news from home put one of Joan’s strongest relationships in jeopardy. At the end of the night, Joan faced the difficult decision of which four men to send home.

The men bared it all to Joan during the group date

The first date of the week was the group date, which consisted of nine men. Jordan and Guy were the only ones not on the group date card, indicating that they were chosen for the one-on-ones. The card invited the men to “bare it all”, which Bachelor Nation fans know can only mean one thing.

Joan was accompanied by former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe , who told the men that they will be learning a strip tease routine to perform for a live audience. The men were nervous but became more excited after finding out the proceeds of the event would be going to Stand Up to Cancer.

The Golden men put on quite the show and had the whole room cheering. Jonathan worked the stage to the point that the others were sure he had done this before. Gary didn’t hold back either and even had fans stuffing dollar bills in his pockets. Charles L shined as always while Pascal didn’t hesitate to show off his six-pack. Chock used the opportunity to steal a kiss from Joan, who was visibly impressed by him.

At the after-party, Chock was excited to check in with Joan after her difficult week. The night continued on a positive note, with Gary and Joan FaceTiming his son to wish him a happy birthday! Mark and Joan also strengthened their connection and discussed their shared feelings about their spouses always having a place in their hearts. While Joan had many great conversations, she ultimately gave the group date rose to Chock.

    Sad news before Jordan’s one-on-one

The morning after receiving the group date rose, Chock received tragic news from home. Chock learned that his mother who had been struggling with terminal cancer had passed away. This scene was really heartbreaking, especially since it came after such an amazing night for Chock and Joan. When Joan came to pick up Jordan for their date, Chock pulled her aside to tell her the news. Chock admitted that he needed to leave, which Joan of course understood.

After receiving the sad news, Joan had to put Chock in the back of her mind to focus on her date with Jordan. The pair went to a local ice skating rink, which of course was the one date Jordan was hoping not to get. I feel like production purposely does this to the contestants sometimes.

Despite taking a fall, Jordan and Joan had a great time ice skating. After sitting down for a chat, Jordan opened up to Joan about his divorce as well as his love for his kids. The date really furthered the connection between these two and Joan later awarded Jordan a rose. Joan had one more surprise for Jordan, however. The couple received a private concert from REO Speedwagon, who happened to be one of Jordan’s favorite bands. At least they made up for making him ice skate!

A cooking date for Joan and Guy

The other lucky recipient of a one-on-one date this week was Guy. For his date, Guy got to visit Joan at her house and spend the afternoon cooking with her. The pair whipped up a lemon baked ziti that looked delicious. They might’ve convinced me to try this recipe myself. Of course, no meal is complete without dessert, so they also decorated some cupcakes.

Despite not spending much time together before the date, Joan and Guy realized their connection was actually quite strong. While eating dinner, Guy opened up to Joan about divorcing his ex-wife of 34 years. Joan was a good listener and really appreciated Guy sharing something so personal. Guy was thrilled to accept a rose from Joan at the end of the date, which they finished with a sweet dance around the kitchen.

The Golden Bachelorette Episode 4’s Rose Ceremony

At this point in the season, the rose ceremonies always get tough. Viewers are familiar with all of the men by this point, so it’s always harder to see some of them get sent home. Before making her decisions, Joan got the chance to talk with each of the men at the cocktail party.

Joan and Pascal spoke first and Joan expressed concerns about Pascal not pursuing her as strongly as she liked. Pascal assured her that he just didn’t want to step on anyone else’s toes but that he was very interested in her. Next, Jonathan surprised Joan with a box of Cheerios with her name on it. This was random but super sweet! Mark also gave Joan a thoughtful gift, a fire truck to symbolize his costume during the Bare All date. Keith and Joan’s conversation was a little less fun than usual, as Keith got some unexpected nerves beforehand.

The biggest surprise of the night was the return of Chock. Joan was elated to see Chock, who told her that he was crazy about her and that he had to come back. I’m so glad Chock returned because he would’ve been a huge what if for Joan if he didn’t. At the rose ceremony, Joan ultimately chose to say goodbye to Charles L, Gary, Dan, and Gil. Charles L became quite popular with Bachelor Nation over the last few weeks, so it’s sad to see him go.

The Golden Bachelorette continues Wednesdays at 8/7 on ABC.
