Nate Blasiole and the Crestwood defense dominated Friday's opener at Robert C. Dunn Stadium, topping host Rootstown 20-2.

Nate Blasiole ran for 239 yards on 33 carries for the Red Devils (1-0), scoring two touchdowns to break open a 6-2 game at halftime.

That was plenty for the Crestwood defense, which held the Rovers to just 139 yards. Damien Reuting provided a sizable chunk of Rootstown's offense with 12 carries for 42 yards as well as a 28-yard reception.

    Windham 49, Lisbon 6

The Bombers avenged a loss last year to the Blue Devils, delivering one big return after another. Carlos Bruton returned two punts for scores, one from 64 yards out and one from 50, while Jack Eye opened the scoring with an 85-yard kickoff return TD. Eye also had two rushing touchdowns, three two-point conversions and two interceptions.

    Aurora 42, Twinsburg 6

The Greenmen had a big day on the ground, rushing for 278 yards and four touchdowns.

Cole Walton scored two of those rushing touchdowns, making good use of his five carries, while Lucas Manderbach had a team-leading 108 yards on 16 rushes. Xavier Board approached the century mark as well, turning 13 carries into 87 yards. Ryan Dwyer was no less efficient at quarterback, completing 9 of 12 passes for 120 yards. Ben Lukasik also had a big play for Aurora (1-0) with a 67-yard pick-six.

    Streetsboro 29, CVCA 21

A Royals comeback stalled in the fourth quarter as Marcus Council and Cohen Klimak rushed for over 400 yards and three scores for the Rockets. Joey Kopec scored with 1:07 left to cut CVCA's deficit to eight, but the Royals couldn’t complete the comeback.
