Explosives training set Wednesday, Thursday at Camp Garfield

Residents and business owners near Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center in Portage and Trumbull counties might notice an increase in blast noise while explosives are used during training on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Ohio Army National Guard's The 147th Regiment (Regional Training Institute) will be conducting training scenarios specifically designed for soldiers taking the combat engineer course.

The 147th Regiment provides institutional training within assigned career management fields, Army Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System, officer candidate school, and warrant officer candidate school missions based on the collective requirements identified by the Army, Army Reserve, and National Guard Bureau.

Sounds from the explosions might be heard farther away than what occurs during normal operations. There will be intermittent explosions and gunfire at the facility during annual training season, which typically runs through about September.

Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center is a Ohio Army National Guard training site in Portage and Trumbull counties with about 21,000 acres. It has various small arms and machine gun weapons ranges and permanent facilities to support individual and collective training events for both weekend and annual training for Army and other Department of Defense units in the midwestern United States.
