    Portage HS scores | Sept. 5: Southeast golf tops Kent, Rootstown boys soccer wins 300th

    In a battle of two of the top girls golf programs in Portage County, host Southeast edged Roosevelt, 169-173.

    Sammy Morgan (38) and Taylor Blazec (39) led the undefeated Pirates with Aubree Varga (45) close behind.

    Boys Golf

    Southeast 177, Rootstown 183

    James Morgan fired a 40 to earn medalist honors and lead the Pirates to a close victory over the Rovers at Olde Dutch Mill Golf Course. Alex Peelish (43) and Ethan Shodd (45) were close behind for Southeast while Trentan Sines led Rootstown with his 43.

    Girls Soccer

    Southeast 8, Garfield 0

    Sarah Craver and Destiny Longgood led the Pirates with two goals apiece. Six Southeast players found the back of the net with Claire Dillner, Ari Fiorentino, Cadence Hoover and Maddie Lutes joining Craver and Longgood.

    Ravenna 3, Springfield 2

    Natalie Clark, NaCol Foreman and Ella Ribelin scored a goal apiece to lead the Ravens to a Metro Athletic Conference win.

    Field 11, Coventry 0

    Kelsey Tucker contributed a hat trick for the Falcons (3-2-0, 2-0-0 Metro Athletic Conference), who had nine scorers overall.

    Boys Soccer

    Rootstown 5, Canton Central Catholic 3

    Zach Pastor notched a hat trick (and added an assist) as the Rovers recorded the 300th win in program history. Blake Postlethwait added a goal and an assist, Zach Hays also scored and Ben Smith and Bryson Scarlett added an assist apiece for Rootstown.

    Field 4, Coventry 0

    Ethan Flores-Soler scored twice and Caleb Brastine recorded a four-save shutout as the Falcons remained perfect in league play. Cedric Martin and Brayden Ronowski also scored for Field (6-1-0, 3-0-0 Metro Athletic Conference), while Luke Lonzrick and Wyatt Rahe had an assist apiece.

    Volleyball

    Windham def. Bloomfield, 25-12, 25-18, 25-18

    Quinn Justham had a big day passing (21 assists) and serving (13 points, 7 aces) for the Bombers. Sara Giugni (19 kills, 6 blocks) and Sydnie Sweet (17 digs) also put up big performances for Windham.

    Warren JFK def. Rootstown, 16-25, 25-15, 25-11, 27-25

    The Rovers suffered their first Portage Trail Conference loss despite 12 kills from Colbie Curall and 24 digs from Addy Germann. Allison Strickland also excelled for Rootstown (3-4, 2-1) with 15 digs, 9 kills and 7 blocks.
