A Portage County grand jury has indicted a Twinsburg man on charges alleging that he fired a gun outside a Ravenna home in August.

William Maurice Hale-Jones, 19, is charged in the indictment with improperly discharging a firearm in or at a habitation or school zone and three counts of assault, all second-degree felonies. All of the charges include firearm specifications.

Ravenna police said residents discovered about 10 p.m. Aug. 12 that two vehicles in the driveway of a home in the 400 block of Madison Street and the home's garage door had been struck by bullets fired from the sidewalk in front of the home. One bullet passed through two backyard fences before becoming lodged in a tree on a Jefferson Street property more than 200 feet to the east.

Police said the residents were at home, but no injuries were reported. A total of 11 spent cartridges and bullet fragments were recovered.

Police said security cameras located an involved vehicle, which eventually led to Hale-Jones' arrest at his home on Sept. 17.

Hale-Jones was arraigned Monday in Portage County Common Pleas Court, and Judge Becky Doherty ordered the suspect held on $250,000 bond in Portage County Jail.

Hale-Jones is scheduled for a jury trial Nov. 19; an Oct. 30 discovery hearing; and a Nov. 6 pretrial hearing.
