DOWNTOWN RED BANK BUILDING PRICE JUMPS $900K IN 18 MONTHS
(Photo by Brian Donohue. Click to enlarge.) Igor Kapelnikov has struck gold in downtown Red Bank again. The Manalapan commercial real estate broker who last year notched a whopping 114-percent gain on his two-year investment in 14-16 Broad, home to Bistro at Red Bank, has flipped another building two blocks away for a sum far heftier than what he paid.

THE redbankgreen PODCAST: STORMIN’ NORMAN SELDIN
It’s time (yes, finally) for another episode of the redbankgreen podcast. This time, we’re sitting down for an amazing conversation with “Stormin'” Norman Seldin, 77-year-old longtime musician, producer, songwriter, arranger, promoter, manager, music director and record label owner. His stories are Red Bank gold and his life encapsulates so many themes of life in and around Red Bank over the last seven decades. There’s tales of old Red Bank, the Asbury Park 1960’s music scene, racist nightclub owners, mobbed up Jersey shore bars and decades of sweet, sweet music. Give a listen and you won’t be disappointed.

RED BANK PORCHFEST RETURNS FOR THIRD YEAR
Photos from last year’s porchfest. (Photos by John T. Ward) Let’s be honest here, folks. Not every town can pull of what Red Bank is going to pull off this weekend. We’re talking about Porchfest, the now-annual community event in which musicians turn front porches into stages and flood the streets with music. Almost 100 acts will appear at two dozen locations playing everything from rock to jazz to folk and classical.
MR. D BRINGS THE BOOGIE
Mr. D (Dennis Daniels) keeps the music coming at the ribbon cutting for the newly expanded Parker Family Health Center Tuesday afternoon. Always on the ball, when he saw redbankgreen at the event, he queued up Count Basie’s “Red Bank Boogie” because he had seen our recent video celebrating Basie’s birthday featuring Red Bankers dancing (and, yes, not dancing) to the song. It may now be the official redbankgreen walk up song. Either that or Negasonic Teenage Warhead by Monster Magnet. Hmm. (photo by Brian Donohue)
PAINT THE TOWN PURPLE
One of many purple ribbons that appeared on light poles in downtown Red Bank Wednesday with the morning sun shining on St. James church in the background. The ribbons are part of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month events planned by the organization 180 Turning Lives Around in partnership with the Borough of Red Bank. From the organization’s social media post about its “Paint the Town Purple” events: “We have events and activities throughout the month to bring awareness and visibility to our mission of empowering survivors and families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault to find the courage and strength to turn their lives around.” (photo by Brian Donohue)
SEASON OF PICKLEBALL MADNESS WRAPS UP AT NEW RED BANK COURTS
The last Tuesday morning “open play” pickleball session of the season at the East Side Park courts. (Photo by Brian Donohue. Click to enlarge.) A clock to remind people when it’s time to stop pickling. Better enforcement of court time limits to avoid “awkward social interactions.” And measures to keep people who live out of town from using a bogus address to sign up to use the courts.
RED BANK: “PURE JOY” AS PARKER CENTER UNVEILS EXPANSION
(Photo by Brian Donohue. Click to enlarge.) Suzy Dyer looked pretty distracted. She had a few seconds before she had to take the mic as a large crowd of staff, volunteers, donors and dignitaries swirled around her in the doorway of the Parker Health Center on one of the biggest days in the history of the 24-year-old clinic. Dyer is the center’s executive director and it was no time to ask her questions.
RED BANK: BROADWALK WRAPS UP; STREET OPENS TO TRAFFIC TUESDAY
With near continuous rain Saturday and Sunday, Broadwalk’s last weekend of the season was a washout. RED BANK: MONSTER MAGNET FRONTMAN MARKS 35 YEARS OF ROCK
(Photo by Brian Donohue. Click to enlarge.) Last week, Dave Wyndorf was living his life of an average Red Bank dude. A guy who likes to start his day with a ton of coffee, maybe read his beloved comic books and just “sit on my porch and feed the squirrels.”
OOMPAH YIELDS MOOLAH FOR YMCA
There was more than beer samplings, sausage and oompah music to celebrate Red Bank’s Oktoberfest on Saturday. Event organizer Red Bank RiverCenter presented a $10,000 donation to the Red Bank Family YMCA to support water safety education for borough third graders and announced June 15 as the date for the 2025 Red Bank Classic 5K charity run and walk. The charitable gift was made possible through proceeds from this year’s 5K, which drew nearly 1,500 runners and walkers. (Partyline photo courtesy of Andrea Plaza)
