A westerly view from the contaminated landfill site. (Photo by Brian Donohue. Click to enlarge.) It’s the largest plot of undeveloped land in Red Bank: 10 acres of thick brush, trees and deer paths littered with trash. It boasts wide waterfront views of sunsets and wildlife, like foxes and bald eagles.

WAYWARD SLIM JIM
Anybody lose a Slim Jim? A “Sweet Mild O’ Mine” flavor Slim Jim was seen left unattended on this mailbox on Mechanic Street as the letter carrier approached. Perhaps it was left for him as a reward from an appreciative US Postal Service patron? Or perhaps someone briefly put it down and got distracted and is now wondering where their delicious jerky treat has gone? If you misplaced it, or if you’re just hungry for a free snack, we left it there for you, as tempted as we were.

DOGFEST, FARMERS MARKET TOP RED BANK WEEKEND PICKS
Broadwalk’s first weekend of the year is on tap. Exercise and pets are both great for boosting serotonin levels. Start with a group stroll or bike as part of the Mayor’s Wellness campaign event, then head to Broadwalk and eat lunch with a bunch of cute dogs running around. Want more? Those two are far from the only mood-boosting events happening in town. Scroll down for more ideas for a great spring weekend.

YAPPY TOGETHER
Look for this cutie pie, named Sacramento, at Yappy Hour on Broad Street in Red Bank Saturday. Sacramento is an affectionate, four-month-old Shepherd mix with big paws he’ll be growing into, and he’s available for adoption through Louie’s Legacy, one of the many animal advocacy groups participating in Yappy Hour.
YELLOW RAINCOAT DAY
On a rainy May morning, the only golden sight on Broad Street this morning were the matching raincoats of Eileen and her dog Benny. It’s 145 years old. It’s one of the most iconic and historic buildings in Red Bank. And ever so slowly, it’s sinking into the Navesink River. Watch the latest video from redbankgreen to hear how the Monmouth Boat Club plans to save and preserve one of the town’s last remaining links to its maritime past and hopefully lead the way in helping the town reclaim a more salty future.

They emerged from the ground Monday morning, a sure sign of the season in which chilling out takes precedence over hustle and bustle, where a sip of wine under the stars takes precedence over shortcuts for SUV’s. Love ’em or hate ’em, the Broadwalk bollards are back.
STOP. JUST STOP.
For those who don’t get the meaning of a handheld stop sign, Red Bank crossing guard Diane Johnson amplifies the message with some colorful outfits. Not that her approach is 100-percent effective, says Johnson, seen here Monday afternoon at Maple Avenue and Peters Place. “They still don’t stop,” she...
