Redding fire early Sunday caused by illegal fireworks

A vegetation fire reported shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday in Redding was caused by illegal fireworks, a Redding Fire Department statement said.

The fire was "immediately threatening homes" in the area of Magnolia Ave and Tehama Street, according to the agency.

The fire was determined to have been started by illegal fireworks, said a statement from Redding Fire Prevention Officer Ron Krznarich on June 30.

Several fences were burned in the incident. No homes were damaged and no injuries were reported. Two engines and 10 personnel responded to the call and crews were on the scene for about an hour and a half, the statement said.

According to the statement, all fireworks are illegal in Shasta County and the "Redding Fire Department has zero tolerance for any fireworks and will file arson charges with the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office if you start a fire from fireworks."

The June 30 fire is second blaze reported near homes in Redding in the past week.

A 9-acre fire broke out in southeast Redding's Clover Creek Preserve on June 23. No injuries were reported and no homes were damaged there, although several wooden fences separating the rear yards of some houses from the 128-acre preserve were burned, said fire officials.

As of late last week, officials had not determined what caused the fire in the preserve.
