A fire that started in Ono in western Shasta County was 70% contained Wednesday, but remained under investigation.

The Yolla Fire off Yolla Bolly Road and Wintun Road was reported at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday during Red Flag Warning conditions, with high temperatures, winds and dry conditions.

By Tuesday afternoon the fire had grown to 19 acres, with numerous crews working the blaze. Jas Shaw, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, said the cause of the blaze was still under investigation.

But Cal Fire determined the cause of another fire that broke out in the 6500 block of Quail Creek Drive in Anderson at about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday. That fire burned about 2 acres after it was started by someone using a tractor in a dry field of grass, Shaw said.

"Cal Fire law enforcement takes unlawfully caused fires very seriously. They conduct thorough investigations, issue citations, make arrests, and pursue civil cost recovery cases against individuals responsible for fires due to willfulness, negligence, or violation of law," Cal Fire wrote on Facebook.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for wildfires because of hot weather, dry conditions and wind in the region that are conducive to spreading fast-moving wildfires. The high temperature in Redding on Wednesday was forecast at 111 degrees, with winds out of the north from 9 to 15 mph and gusts up to 32 mph.

The hot and dry conditions are not going away soon. The Red Flag Warning was expected to remain in force until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The high temperature Thursday is expected to reach 112 degrees.
