UPDATE: Water restored at Shasta College main campus. Classes to resume Friday

Water service was restored at the main Shasta College Campus in east Redding on Thursday afternoon after the school had closed earlier due to a main water line break.

School spokesman Peter Griggs sent out a news release at 2:40 p.m. that said the water had been turned back on. The water break was reported around 12:45 p.m.

"An unmarked water pipe was broken during one of the campus improvement projects outside, near the 1400 building. To facilitate repairs, water to the entire campus was turned off for a few hours. Repairs to the pipe have been made," the news release said.

Griggs said classes will resume at the school on Friday.

The campus closure did not affect Shasta’s campuses in downtown Redding, Tehama and Trinity counties or the Intermountain campus in eastern Shasta County. Online classes also were not affected.

A broken water pipe last October also shut down the college’s main campus. The campus closed Friday and reopened Monday.

Griggs said Thursday’s water break was in a different area.
