(FOX40.COM) — In only a matter of hours, the Park Fire exploded into California’s largest fire of 2024 and a column of drift smoke visible from space is now entering neighboring states.

The National Weather Service shared timelapse images from the GOES-West satellite that clearly show the plume of drift smoke being blown into southern Oregon, southern Idaho and northwest Nevada.

For the remainder of Thursday and into Friday, morning those living in Redding, Red Bluff, Mineral, Susanville and other areas of northeastern California can expect a dense layer of drift smoke in the sky.

The Reno National Weather Service station provided a detailed drift smoke animation showing smoke from the Park Fire reaching as far east as Winnemucca, Nevada, a distance of around 330 miles.
