Should Michigan Adopt The Illinois Purge Law?
In July of 2022, lawmakers in Illinois decided to implement a new law that would reduce the number of residents who were spending time behind bars in the county jails. As the state of Illinois was facing issues with being understaffed in their jails and holding offenders for too long, they decided that something had to be done in the justice system. Illinois lawmakers would gather and deliberate on what many have dubbed the Purge law to help fix their county jail issues.
Pritzker signs bill creating new Department of Early Childhood
SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker signed legislation Tuesday creating a new cabinet-level state agency dedicated to early childhood education and development. The new Department of Early Childhood, which will become operational in July 2026, will take over programs currently housed across three state agencies, including funding for preschool programs, child care centers and the licensing of day care centers.

Uptown Normal pub celebrates 50 years
NORMAL (25News Now)—Pub II turned 50 this Saturday, and the business commemorated the milestone with a parking lot party. The pub opened in 1974 and has been a staple in the Normal community for five decades. Saturday’s party included a beer truck, live music, and their fan-favorite cheeseballs.
Illinois site brings people up close with animals
ARCOLA, Ill. — Aikman Wildlife Adventure in Arcola, Illinois, gives people a chance to get close to animals not usually seen in Illinois forests or farms. The attraction is 40 acres, with half of it is a drive-thru experience and the other half walkable. James Aikman, president of Aikman Wildlife Adventure, said the attraction began construction in September 2015 and the drive-thru opened in March 2016.
Illinois basketball: Former Commit Jeremiah Fears discusses decommitment
Jeremiah Fears announced his decision to de-commit from Illinois basketball earlier in the week. The decision was tough to swallow for many Illinois basketball fans, however, made a lot of sense for both parties. Fears is one of the top combo guards in the class of 2025 and would like to expedite his path to the professional ranks. There have been many discussions regarding a decision to reclass into the class of 2024 as Fears has already graduated high school. On the flip side, Illinois basketball has a roster that is filled to the brim and simply cannot give Fears the role that he desires in the 2024 season.
