RNC comes to Milwaukee metro area with a new, more challenging political landscape
Republicans are holding their 2024 national convention in a swing-state metropolis where the political ground has been steadily shifting against them. The four-county Milwaukee metro area, home to more than a quarter of Wisconsin’s voters, voted Republican for president in 2000 and 2004. But not since. ...
Grade the Trade: 2 former Bucks return to Milwaukee in mock deal with Bulls
NBA Summer League has officially kicked off, which has taken much of the attention off of the Milwaukee Bucks' decision-making and roster renovation. Yet, while the young Bucks get their feet wet and see more action than they typically might, the front office should be working to further upgrade the roster. They still have a roster spot for the taking, but they could also swing a trade if they really want to shake things up. With Milwaukee's second apron restrictions, it's somewhat difficult to piece together trades, but some ideas are interesting.

7/16/24 Hometown Broadcasting News Tuesday
A 32-year-old Brandon man is facing his second operating while intoxicated offense after rolling over his vehicle on Fond du Lac County Highway TC Monday night and fleeing the scene on foot. The County Communications Center got a 911 call shortly before 7:30 about the crash near W11615 County Highway TC in the Town of Springvale. A pickup truck had rolled over and come to rest on its roof in the ditch. Before deputies got there a witness saw the driver of the pickup truck running west on the highway. Deputies located him near a residence. He was taken to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with a serious arm injury. Investigators say the pickup was heading west. The driver began to leave the roadway, traveled into the south ditch and then back onto the roadway. The truck continued west before rolling over several times. It came to rest in the north ditch. Speed, failure to maintain control and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash. Brandon-Fairwater Fire Department, Brandon-Fairwater First Responders, and Lifestar Ambulance also responded to the scene.
Outside RNC, conservative group defends its Project 2025 guidebook as Democrats ramp up critiques
MILWAUKEE (AP) — At the edge of the cordoned-off perimeter around the Republican National Convention on Monday, hundreds of conservatives filed into the ornate home of the Milwaukee Symphony to hear a parade of luminaries talk policy and Project 2025. Project 2025 is the term for the Heritage Foundation’s nearly 1,000-page handbook for the next Republican administration, which has become a cudgel Democrats are wielding against former President Donald Trump, who on Monday officially became the GOP’s presidential nominee. That’s because the book proposes sweeping changes in the federal government, including altering personnel rules to ensure government workers are more loyal to the president. The Heritage event was called “Policy Fest” and was not technically part of Project 2025, but the endeavor constantly came up. Speakers both downplayed it and pumped it up. Heritage’s President Kevin Roberts called it “unprecedented in the history of the conservative movement,” but also tried to tone down his rhetoric from earlier this month when he promised it would lead to a “second American revolution.” “How many of you are ready to very steadily, calmly and peacefully take our country back?” Roberts asked the crowd Monday.

As thousands of out-of-state visitors descended on Milwaukee for the start of the Republican National Convention on Monday, many seemed pleasantly surprised by a local delicacy: Spotted Cow beer. The company brewed about 230,000 barrels of beer last year, 30% of which will be Spotted Cow, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. ...
Surprise Ex-Bucks Starter Hoping to Make NBA Comeback
The Milwaukee Bucks are having one of the most disappointing offseasons in the NBA, failing to make any significant upgrades to the roster despite an underwhelming 2023-24 season. The aging roster who failed to meet expectations and lost in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs last season, is seemingly coming back for another run for the 2024-25 campaign.
Stark wins Slinger Small Car Nationals
Slinger, Wis., July 14—Karter Stark advanced from his eighth starting position to win the 30-lap Super Beez Small Car Nationals feature Sunday night at the Slinger Speedway. Travis Kreuser and Nick Schmidt swapped the lead in the early laps as Karter Stark and Kyle Stark quickly joined them as the top four cars raced tightly together. Eventually the inside lane prevailed as Schmidt took sole possession of the top spot bringing Karter Stark with him. Stark pressured Schmidt for the lead and then took to the outside lane in traffic to take command of the race. Stark then began to pull away out front as Kyle Stark began to battle with Schmidt for second. Kyle Stark took over second place on lap 16 and set his sights on his son Karter Stark for the lead. A spin by Krueser off turn two with five laps to go set up a dash for the finish with Karter Stark leading over Kyle Stark and Schmidt. During the caution period, raindrops began to fall but the race resumed for the final laps and Karter Stark was able to hold off Kyle Stark to capture the win. Jason Uttech made a late charge to finish in third place followed by Tim Anderson and Mitchell Strobel in fourth and fifth place respectively. Paul Reagles finished in sixth place followed by Al Strobel in seventh while Schmidt fell to eighth in the final laps. Tracy Neu and Travis Kreuser rounded out the top ten finishers.

MILWAUKEE — John Miller arrived at Monday’s RNC protest in full costume: An orange jumpsuit, an oversized Donald Trump mask, and handcuffs, useful for holding onto his plastic water bottle. He stood near a rally point in Red Arrow Park, grappling with the news that Judge Aileen Cannon had dismissed the classified documents case against Trump.
