Study Shows Texas is One of the Worst Places to Work
A new study from Oxfam shows that Texas is one of the worst paces to be an employee in the United States. Overall, the state ranks seventh from the bottom. The annual Oxfam Best and Worst States to Work in the U.S. study looks at a variety of factors when it comes to quality of life for workers. These include wages, paid time off, workplace protections, and other factors that add up to a stable and secure workforce. Texas ranks in the bottom half of all measures, and near the bottom of most.
School Voucher Groups Avoid Vouchers in New Mailers
Out-of-state billionaires are hoping to swing some competitive Texas House races to pass vouchers, but you would never know it from the mailers they are sending out. Quorum Report’s Scott Braddock reports that mailers sent to constituents of Reps. Caroline Harris of Williamson County and Angie Chen Button of Richardson by the American Federation of Children completely omit the fact they were sent on behalf of a pro-school voucher organization. Instead, they emphasize how Harris and Button support “higher pay for teachers, more money for schools, and higher quality schools for children.”
Thierry Jumps Ship: Houston Democrat Flips to GOP After Primary Defeat
State Rep. Shawn Thierry announced she is switching to the Republican party after being defeated in her primary for supporting bills against the LGBTQ+ community. Thierry, a Houston democrat was ousted by her primary challenger Lauren Ashley Simmons in the May runoff. According to the Texas Tribune, Democrats heavily supported Simmons because Thierry supported bills to bar gender-transitioning care for minors and removing some books from libraries, both measures supported by Republicans.
Dallas Police Officer Killed In Shooting Suspect Fatally Shot In Pursuit
A Dallas police officer was shot and killed and two others were wounded in a shooting Thursday night southeast of Oak Cliff. The suspect was ultimately killed by officers. According to the Dallas Morning News, Officer Darron Burks, 46, who had recently completed his police training after a career as a school teacher, was fatally wounded. The incident occurred when officers responded to an assist call on East Ledbetter Drive and encountered a suspect. The officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, resulting in Burks’ death and injuries to two other officers.

On Monday, Fort Bend ISD approved a library book policy that grants the superintendent the authority to remove books from library shelves without requiring a review committee.
