Burlington County officials partner for school collection drive
Burlington County is collecting donations of new school supplies, backpacks and other back to school items for local families in need. The Burlington County Commissioners, Burlington County Sheriff’s Department and State Sen. Troy Singleton [D-7] announced their partnership for the collection/donation drive in a county press release on July 13.
High school students’ nonprofit garners help from global real estate company
Altruism has collaborated with Greystar Real Estate Partners to organize a series of book drives around the United States, as well as Canada, India and the United Kingdom. Led by West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South rising seniors Saif Nabi and Anish Reddy, Altruism, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to promoting literacy and increasing access to education to underprivileged youth worldwide. With 11 chapters around the world, the volunteer-led organization, has donated 15,000 educational supplies to schools and communities.

Burlington County Sheriff’s Department offers safety and security programs for seniors
The Burlington County Sheriff’s Department wants county seniors and residents with disabilities to feel safe and secure in their homes. To assist them, the department is accepting appointments to perform free home security and safety inspections. During the inspections, a specialist goes through a resident’s home and then makes recommendations for various safety or security improvements or modifications that may be needed, according to a press release through Burlington County on July 12.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County appoints Lorraine Goodman as the agency’s new director of advancement. Goodman brings a wealth of professional development and marketing experience to Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Mercer County, with nearly 15 years in nonprofit work. Her professional fundraising experience ranges from helping The Red Hot Organization (which produces record albums and then donates the proceeds to AIDS-related charities) earn its first grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, to acting as Princeton AlumniCorps’ Development Officer and leading LALDEF through the height of the pandemic, according to a press release through BBBS in June.

Bordentown Township Police Department welcomes new Police K-9 Remi; swears in new captain
Nathan Roohr was appointed and sworn in as captain of the Bordentown Township Police Department. Roohr has been with the department since 2003 and previously served as patrolman, patrol sergeant and more recently lieutenant. In Dec. 2021, Roohr received a Distinguished Service Award from the New Jersey Bias Crimes Association for the character, integrity and courage that he showed in holding other law enforcement officers accountable, according to the Bordentown newsletter.
Burlington County Animal Shelter reduces adoption fees for July
Summer is here and Burlington County officials say it’s the “purr-fect” time to look for a new best friend from the county animal shelter. Throughout the month of July, the shelter will have reduced adoption fees of $25 for an adult dog and $15 for adult cats to help encourage residents and families to bring home a shelter pet, according to a Burlington County press release.
