It's the last weekend in July at the Delaware beaches.

Last week, Rehoboth Beach made news worldwide when U.S. President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race while staying at his North Shores home , but for most folks in town, the merry midsummer days of swimming and sunning continued without interruption.

The heat subsided a little bit last week, followed by rain, storms and even a tornado warning, but this weekend's weather is looking much more ideal. And on top of all there is to do at the beaches, happening nearby this weekend is the Delaware State Fair.

The News Journal/Delaware Online publishes this guide to the Delaware beaches every week in the summertime. Read on for everything you need to know.

    Weather

Thursday has 60% chance of rain. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, however, are expected to be sunny with highs in the lower 80s, according to the National Weather Service, a beach-lover's dream.

As we all know, weather forecasts change, so keep abreast of current conditions.

    Fishing

Likely due to the weather forecast, and just plain old popularity, several of Delaware State Parks' seven drive-on beaches are already fully reserved for Saturday. Reservations for Sunday open at 11 a.m. Wednesday, so if you want to surf-fish this weekend, make a reservation as soon as possible at destateparks.com/SurfTagSales.

If you prefer to fish by boat, Redbird Reef, located about 16.5 nautical miles off the Indian River Inlet, had two new boats added to it Monday.

    Safety

Teenagers can have a lot of fun at the Delaware beaches, but they can also get into a lot of trouble, or worse, hurt.

The locals call them Junebugs – teens who show up in the area at this time of year, many freshly graduated from high school, and gather in the streets at night. Police in Dewey Beach especially struggle with an increase in calls for public drinking, underage drinking, public urination, loitering and other nuisance matters related to Junebugs. Make sure your teens are in your house, or at least on private property, by 11 p.m., when Dewey's curfew for those younger than 18 takes effect.

On top of that, in June, a 15-year-old was raped by another 15-year-old on Rehoboth Beach at night, according to police. Allowing teens to wander around unsupervised at night is not recommended.

    Entertainment

When you're all beached out, there's plenty to do on the boardwalks, in the downtowns and on Coastal Highway. The many bars and restaurants offer entertainment, and most of the beach towns host free concerts or movies at least weekly in the summertime.

If you're looking for a proper show, there are several venues to check out. This weekend, Clear Space Theatre Company in Rehoboth Beach will feature "Jersey Boys" and "The Prom." Dickens Parlour Theatre in Ocean View will host Peter Samelson's "Magic, Love, Mystery," and the Freeman Arts Pavilion in Selbyville will host none other than Jerry Seinfeld Thursday night.

Over in Harrington, the Delaware State Fair is back. There's a demolition derby Friday night and the Turnpike Troubadours will play Saturday night. There's a parade every night and The Hollywood Racing Pigs do their thing three times a day. The fair also features a large variety of food, rides and exhibits.
