Federal Sentence for Gun Sale in Michigan City
(South Bend, IN) - A Chicago man has been sentenced on a federal gun charge with ties to Michigan City. In January of last year, 42-year-old Allory Smith of Chicago sold a rifle, a handgun, and ammunition to a buyer in the Michigan City area. According to authorities, Smith referred to the rifle as a “real license to kill” because he believed it had previously been reported stolen. With several prior felony convictions, Smith is prohibited from possessing firearms.

On the sunny evening of Friday, July 19, the City of Crown Point hosted the first day of its annual Taste of Crown Point event at Bulldog Park. Over 25 Crown Point-based food trucks and restaurants set up stalls to serve up their delicious products for attendees. This year’s installment of A Taste of Crown Point also featured live music, a splash pad, cornhole, and face painting. Crown Point residents and visitors from throughout the Region were in attendance. CHICAGO - Brookfield Zoo has announced the addition of several new animals, which includes emus, a sloth bear, and a puggle. In late June, three 3-month-old emus arrived at the Zoo. The one male and two females are adjusting to their outdoor habitat alongside kangaroos at Australia House. Emus, the second-largest birds in the world, are flightless and can sprint up to 30 mph, according to the zoo. The young emus have already gained 25% of their body weight in the past month.
