On August 23rd, 28-year-old Nathaniel Jackson of Newark was arrested and is facing criminal mischief charges. He is suspected of participating in an overnight vandalism spree, slashing the tires of multiple cars in the South Ward.

The arrest comes after authorities received reports of slashed, deflated tires last Monday. The first incident was followed by additional incidents in the 100 blocks of Mapes Avenue and the 800 blocks of South 14th Street.

Many of the homes in the neighborhoods have security cameras, but footage of Jackson and the other suspects has yet to surface. Additionally, residents believe the slashings will cause financial hardship and are stressful for those who rely on their vehicles for transportation.

"My neighbor says they slashed my tires, along with 19 others on this block - that got their tires slashed," said victim Greg Middleton. "But that tire cost $250, just for one tire alone." – Courtesy of ABC 7 New York

Middleton also expressed difficulty traveling around the city and worries about escorting his children to and from school without his car.

Numerous tires were damaged on the driver’s side, but only on one side of the street, and all vandalized vehicles remained parked. Whether Jackson had a criminal record before the tire slashings is unknown. However, the weapon used to slash various vehicles was recovered during his arrest.
