Annual Heritage Festival fishing derby is Saturday
The annual Oil Heritage Festival children’s fishing derby, sponsored by the Oil City chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, will take place on Saturday at Waltonian Park off Deep Hollow Road. Registration opens at 8 a.m., and fishing runs from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Due to traffic issues from the Veterans Bridge closure, parents are advised to plan for timely arrival. The derby features three age divisions with prizes, including a grand prize of an outdoor adventure package. Age groups are 5-6, 7-9, and 10-12, with possible adjustments for balance. Children must be accompanied by a guardian to sign registration forms and should bring their own fishing poles, though bait will be provided. Downtown Pittsburgh restaurant ordered to close in recent health department report
Caravan on Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh was ordered to close after a recent inspection. A report from the Allegheny County Health Department on July 17 cites multiple violations found in the restaurant. This is the second time this year that Caravan has been ordered to close. Detroit man pleas guilty to drug trafficking operation in Beaver County
PITTSBURGH ― A Michigan man has pleaded guilty to his involvement in drug trafficking that was moving illegal substances across Beaver County. According to the Department of Justice, the guilty plea for drug trafficking charges was entered by 33-year-old Andre Brent Steel on Friday. In a public release, the court said this plea comes with a nine-year sentence in federal prison and four years of supervised release.

DoD Requiring New ID for Retired Military
JULY 22, 2024 – Beginning in 2026, the legacy Uniformed Services Identification (USID) card will no longer be accepted for access to benefits, privileges, or DoD bases. According to the DoD Common Access Card website, USID cards are issued to retired military and Reserve members, dependent family members of uniformed Service members, and other eligible individuals in accordance with DoD policy. On July 31, 2020, the DoD started issuing the Next Generation USID cards at select DoD ID card facilities with a phased implementation for all facilities which was completed in December that year.
