Chamber holds legislative candidate forum
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — There was a whole lot of agreement on Thursday at the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber candidate forum for state house and senate candidates. To a man, the Republican candidates for Kansas Senate 34, House District 102 and House District 114 were in favor of further tax relief, especially property taxes.

County commission approves RNR exceed notice Wednesday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Board of County Commissioners on Wednesday approved sending out a notice to exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate for the county's budget for 2025. "The recommendation is to notify the county clerk the intent to exceed the R&R with a maximum budget of tax levy amount of $26,500,190, which equates to 35.762 mills," said Reno County Administrator Randy Partington. "It's a 3.7% increase. That's around $980,000 more in tax levy."

Cheney Reservoir at lowest level since 2013
The National Weather Service said the Cheney Reservoir in Reno, Kingman and Sedgwick counties is at its lowest level since 2013. The Weather Service issued an update this week that said the reservoir is a little more than six feet below the normal conservation level. This is due to a drier start in the first half of the year and current drought conditions.
