    Galena, Reno, Manogue, Reed stars among Champion Chevrolet Athlete of the Week nominees

    These are the April 29-May 5 nominees for Champion Chevrolet RGJ High School Athlete of the Week, which recognizes top performances among Northern Nevada's high school athletes. Send the names and stats for any outstanding performance by a Northern Nevada high school athlete for consideration for Champion Chevrolet RGJ High School Athletes of the Week list to sports@rgj.com , and cast your vote for the top weekly performance in the poll at RGJ.com. Voting will remain open through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, May 9.

    Zack Silverman, senior, Reno : Silverman allowed one hit and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings in a 3-1 win over Galena in baseball on May 1. The Huskies are the top seed for the Class 5A-North Regional tournament.

    Jaxsyn Durst, junior, Bishop Manogue: Durst picked up the win in a 8-4 win over Spanish Springs in baseball on April 30. Durst was 2-4 with a double, a run and stolen base.

    The Miners are the No. 2 seed for the 5A-North Regional tournament.

    Shiloh Wilson, junior, Galena: Wilson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the Grizzlies' 8-7 win over Carson in baseball on April 30. The Grizzlies are the No. 3 seed for the 5A-North Regional baseball tournament.

    Grayson Kamper, sophomore, Douglas: Kamper was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the Tigers' 8-6 win over Spanish Springs in baseball on May 1.

    Talia Tretton, senior, Douglas: Tretton, who will play softball for Iowa in the fall, allowed three hits and struck out 10 in a 6-0 win over Spanish Springs in softball on May 2. The Tigers are the top seed for the Class 5A-North Regional tournament. In a 4-0 win over McQueen on April 30, she allowed three hits and struck out 16.

    McKenna Timmins, senior, Spanish Springs : Timmins was 3-for-6 with four RBIs and a home run in the Cougars' 20-17 win over Reed in softball on May 4. In the second game that day, a 11-6 win for the Cougars, she was 1-for-3 with a home run.

    Kehaulani Tambaoan, junior, Reed: Tambaoan hit three home runs and drove in eight runs in a 20-17 loss to Spanish Springs in softball on May 4. In the second game that day, an 11-6 loss to the Cougars, she was 1-for-4 with another home run.

    Laci Bonanno, sophomore, Bishop Manogue: Bonanno was 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in the Miners' 9-1 win over Galena in softball on May 2. The Miners are the No. 3 seed for the 5A-North Regional tournament.

    Kylah Krupa, senior, Reed: Kylah Krupa, won the Women’s Expert Class on her dirt bike at Viriginia City Grand Prix on April 27-28. She finished 128th out of 450 expert/pro racers that came in from all over the country.

    The race was 88 miles long and she finished in 4 hours, 6 minutes.

    Ava Hill, sophomore, McQueen: Hill posted an .809 save percentage in lacrosse on April 30. She stopped 17 of the 21 shots on goal to help the McQueen girls lacrosse team beat Damonte Ranch, 14 to 4. She has averaged over a .500 save percentage on the year.

    Monty Lambert, freshman, Galena: Lambert won the parallel bar event at Western Nationals and placed sixth all-around in his age group. Western Nationals includes all the states west of the Mississippi; 25 states are represented. About 100 level-8 gymnasts competed overall. Lambert trains at High Sierra Gymnastics.
