After an appeal, there is a new girls team champion from the 5A-North track and field meet.

Douglas was awarded the team title after the NIAA reviewed the situation.

Originally, Galena had been awarded the team title, which would have been the fourth straight Regional championship for the Grizzlies.

According to the Nevada Appeal , at Saturday's meet officials determined a Douglas runner, Bliss Moody, had competed in five events. Competitors are only allowed to compete in a maximum of four events.

Douglas was leading in points until officials took away all points from events she had competed in. Officials said the 4-by-400 relay was her fifth event.

But Moody did not compete in the 200-meter dash, due to a possible injury according to the Nevada Appeal report, although she did remain on the entry list.

The Nevada Appeal states: "Moody had competed in the long jump, 4x100 and 4x200 relay, leading to the belief that she was eligible to be used in the meet’s final race."

On Monday morning, the NIAA reversed the decision and gave Douglas the team title.

Donnie Nelson, executive director of the NIAA, wrote to the RGJ: "A process was followed for reinstatement of a competitor after an original ruling of a rule book violation Saturday afternoon. The ruling has been reversed as of this morning."
