Joshua L. Anderson Memorial Foundation announces 15 scholarships for baseball and softball players

The high school baseball and softball season are over, and awards are still rolling for Northern Nevada athletes thanks to a charitable foundation that began after a tragedy 33 years ago.

The Joshua L. Anderson Memorial Foundation announced 15 scholarships for Northern Nevada baseball and softball players on Monday. The 15 scholarship recipients from 13 different high schools each will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

The 2024 recipients are: Joseph Czyz, Galena; Maleia Daley, Smith Valley; Lucas Glass, Damonte Ranch; Madyson Grenz, Pershing County; Reece Hutchings, Churchill County; Maddison McClure, Lowry; Danyel Micheli, Carlin; Kameron Reed, Carson; Eneyde Rios, Oasis Academy College Prep, Luke Sala, Reno High School, Aaron Tekansik Douglas, Talia Tretton, Douglas; and Michael Zito, Reed.

The Joshua L. Anderson Foundation also awarded the Larry Menante Memorial Scholarship to Samantha Ramsey from McQueen and the Dan Rechenmacher Memorial Scholarship to Kiley Wallace from Churchill County High School.

For 32 years, the Joshua L. Anderson Memorial Foundation has been awarding college scholarships to Northern Nevada student athletes who played high school baseball or softball, while achieving academic excellence and maintaining a high level of community and school activities. The Foundation has awarded $1,240,500 in scholarships to 380 students/athletes from 35 different high schools since its inception in 1992.

Josh Anderson was a 1991 graduate of Reno High School. He played baseball in the Reno National Little League, Reno West Babe Ruth, Reno High School, Reno Knights American Legion and at DeAnza College in Cupertino, California.

Anderson died on June 25, 1992, of Sudden Death Syndrome shortly after pitching in a University of Nevada, summer baseball tournament.
