    Family-friendly Halloween events in Reno, Sparks and Northern Nevada

    When is 2024 trick-or-treating in Reno, Sparks, Carson City and Northern Nevada?

    Although some parts of the United States shift their official door-to-door trick-or-treating nights to the previous weekend, cities and towns in Nevada keep the traditional date of Oct. 31 for candy collection, no matter what day of the week it falls on the calendar. This year, that's on a Thursday evening.

    Trick-or-treat events in Northern Nevada

    Halloween Block Party, Oct. 18: The Nevada State Museum and Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will host a block party in Carson City, complete with a free Trunk or Treat event from 5 to 7 p.m., plus a food truck, a best-decorated car contest, a family Monster Bash-Dance ($5 per person) and free admission to the Haunted Ghost Town and Mine. The Children's Museum is located at 813 N. Carson Street, and the Nevada State Museum is at 600 N. Carson Street. For details, visit cmnn.org and carsonNVmuseum.org .

    Carson City Boonanza, Oct. 24: Trick or treat with Carson City businesses in Mills Park. Food trucks will be on hand, as well as activity stations and more. It's happening at Mills Park, 1111 E. William St. in Carson City. For details, visit carson.org/boonanza .

    Spooktacular Carnival at the National Automobile Museum, Oct. 26: An all-ages costume event, this one features trick-or-treating, games and other fun activities. The morning session takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the main event between 2 and 6 p.m. at 1 Museum Drive in Reno. Admission is $4 for members, $6 for nonmembers.     Halloween Trick or Treat at the Discovery, Oct. 26: Reno's hands-on museum is hosting its 13th annual event in which guests can trick-or-treat from gallery to gallery throughout the museum. Admission is $4 for children, $3 for adults for the event, which runs from noon to 5 p.m. at 490 S. Center St. in Reno. For details, visit nvdm.org .

    Trunk or Treat with Reno Christian Fellowship, Oct. 27: Looking for a free, safe pre-Halloween event? Reno Christian Fellowship will host a trunk-or-treat event on Sunday afternoon between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. at 1700 Zolezzi Lane in Reno. For details, visit renochristian.org .

    Spooktacular on Fallon's Maine Street, Oct. 31: Back by popular demand, Fallon businesses will set up Halloween activities and games along Maine Street. For details, visit visitfallonnevada.com .

    Hauntober Parade and Safe Trick-or-Treating, Oct. 31: Northern Nevada's Halloween capital wraps up its celebrations with a parade down C Street in which everyone with a costume can participate — kids, adults, even pets. Parade check-in is at 4:30 at the Virginia City Jerky Co., with the parade beginning at 5 p.m. Then from 6 to 8, kids can participate in trick-or-treating at shops on the boardwalk. Questions?     Corn mazes in Northern Nevada

    Four local farms are hosting corn mazes along with other fun activities.

    Ferrari Farms, Reno: A full farm experience in the Biggest Little City, Ferrari Farms is hosting its Fall Festival with a corn maze, face painting and more. Admission is free. There's also a barn dance set for Saturday, Oct. 5; admission is $10 for online purchases and $15 at the door. Ferrari Farms is open daily at 10 a.m. at 4701 Mill St. in Reno.     Andelin Family Farm, Sparks: By day, it's Adventure Farm and the five-acre corn maze, with an award-winning pumpkin patch, games and live music on Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. By night, it's Zombie Paintball Thursday through Saturday, 7 to 10 p.m.; and the Corn Creepers haunted corn path, Thursday through Saturday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. It's at 8100 Pyramid Highway in Sparks.     Corley Ranch, Gardnerville: Open daily between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. this month, Corley Ranch guests can solve the corn maze, see farm animals, play mini golf, watch pig races and more.     Lattin Farms, Fallon: The corn maze is just part of the Fall Festival held every Friday and Saturday in October; there's also hay rides, a scarecrow factory and a pumpkin patch.     Other fun fall activities in Northern Nevada

    Dragon Lights Reno, Sept. 27-Nov. 30: The festival of light, art and nature returns to the Wilbur D. May Arboretum in Reno's Rancho San Rafael Park this fall. For details and tickets, visit dragonlightsreno.org .

    Coffin Races and Fall Festival, Oct. 5: It's like soapbox racing, but a little more grim — Main Street Gardnerville will host its annual Coffin Races and Fall Festival, including scarecrow building, hay rides, live music and the opportunity to cheer on your favorite casket. It's taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Heritage Park, 1447 Courthouse Alley in Gardnerville. For details, visit mainstreetgardnerville.org/annual-events/ .

    Fall Festival and Fun Run, Oct. 6: The event celebrating Tahoe Forest Hospital District's 75th anniversary includes a 5K run, a one-mile run/walk and kids races; there's also food trucks, music, face-painting and axe throwing in the lineup.     Fall Break Movie Days at the National Automobile Museum, Oct. 7-10: The National Automobile Museum will have a double feature of Halloween movies from Monday through Thursday, Oct. 7-10, with a lineup including Hotel Transylvania, Casper, Hocus Pocus and more. Movies start each day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at 1 Museum Drive in Reno. For details and admission, visit automuseum.org .

    Harvest Train Festival, Oct. 19-20: Enjoy a 30-minute train ride on the historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Trains depart every 30 minutes between 10:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.; tickets are sold at the museum on the day of the event. Costumes are encouraged. For details, visit carsonrailroadmuseum.org .

    Fall Colors Hike, Oct. 20: Walk along the Carson River with Carson City Park Rangers to learn more about changing leaves and how local wildlife prepares for winter. It starts off at Carson River Park, 5013 Carson River Road in Carson City. For details, visit visitcarsoncity.org .
