Reno’s newest Hyatt Place hotel is officially open at the Summit mall.

The 132-room Hyatt Place South Reno opened on Thursday after passing all inspections. The opening caps a four-and-a-half-year journey for the hotel project, which was first announced in early 2020 .

Located along Mount Rose Highway, the new Hyatt Place was envisioned as an upscale service hotel for travelers who want to experience Lake Tahoe but still want to stay within the Reno area. The hotel is located about 14 miles away from Mount Rose Ski Resort, for example.

“We designed this hotel to meet the specific needs of visitors who come to Reno Tahoe (for) skiing, mountain biking, hiking and other outdoor sports, as well as for families and business travelers who want easy access to Tahoe, Reno and Carson City,” said Par Tolles, CEO of development company Tolles.

The project, which was built in partnership with Pelzer Hospitality and Azul Hospitality, is also close to several dining and shopping options at the Shayden Summit Mall, Tolles added.

Amenities at the Hyatt Place South Reno include a heated outdoor pool, a 24-hour fitness center, a large outdoor patio with fire pits, storage for golf clubs and ski equipment, and a 24-hour business center.

The hotel also provides complimentary breakfast for customers plus a dedicated in-house food option with its Placery Restaurant.

Hyatt Place South Reno is the latest hotel to open in the area in response to the region’s growth. Last year, the 170-unit Element by Westin hotel opened at the Reno Experience District at Plumb Lane.

“We’re confident that the Hyatt Place South Reno will become a fixture of the hospitality industry for both visitors and the local business community as northern Nevada and south Reno continue to grow,” said Danny Diefenthaler, Hyatt Place South Reno general manager.
