Last week from March 6th-9th Steamboat Springs, CO hosted the 2024 NCAA Skiing National Championship.

The University of Nevada, Reno finished tied for 19th place with a team total of 10 points. Check out the full results here .

CU Boulder was able to edge Utah by two points to end their four year streak of national titles.

Nevada’s only representative in the competition and point scorer was Iver Walday Naess , a junior from Oslo, Norway.

Naess was able to secure seven points from a 24th place finish in men’s slalom and three points from a 28th place finish in the giant slalom, rounding out a solid season for the Norwegian.

Naess’ best results of the season came at the WR FIS Open Tech Series in Wyoming where he claimed a first place finish in slalom and a third place finish in giant slalom. His sixth place result from the University of Utah Invitational and 11th place at the University of Colorado Invitational secured his right in the championship.

This was Naess’ second year in a row qualifying for Skiing National Championships, and he hopes to continue to improve into his senior season.

Head coach Cameron Smith had nothing but praise for Naess:

"I'm proud to have Iver represent Nevada at the 2024 NCAA Skiing Championships. He has [shown] his speed in several races this year and I think he [is] just beginning [to show] what he can accomplish on the NCAA circuit. This is just another step to rebuilding the program at Nevada!"
