We got the recount issue resolved, everyone. On Tuesday night, the Washoe County Commission voted 4-1 to approve the results of a vote recount in two local races , after rejecting the results on a 3-2 vote last week. Commissioners Clara Andriola and Mike Clark switched from "no" to "yes" from the previous vote.

What changed? Well, the threat of a lawsuit from the state , for starters. But at least we got it fixed, right? Still, this feels less like a resolved argument and more like recount skeptics just gave up -- like a bitter dispute between roommates where the losing side didn't really change their mind about anything, but chose to rage-quit the argument ("Fine, we'll store the stupid ketchup in the pantry, like idiots! Happy?"). Long story short, one of these two sides is probably going to look for new accommodations once the lease on the county expires.

It's like Canada threw up all over us

Northwestern Nevada went two decades without an ice hockey team. Then, at some point in the recent past, someone expressed interest in going to a hockey game while standing next to an Amazon Echo, and we've been getting inundated with hockey every since.

First, the semipro Reno Ice Raiders arrived in south Reno in 2021 . Stateline is getting the Tahoe Knight Monsters in October . And a few weeks ago, rumors began swirling that Reno's Grand Sierra Resort would be the new home of the Tucson Roadrunners franchise , potentially in 2026.

In an attempt to win back the attention of local hockey fans, the Knight Monsters announced their first player signing : minor league hockey veteran Anthony Collins. Your move, Ice Raiders.

Between a Hard Rock and a Golden Nugget

The former Hard Rock Hotel, a 500-room resort at Stateline, has become the Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe after being purchased by Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta. Now, it's getting a massive revamp that's expected to take the next year and a half to complete. Jeffrey Meehan has more .

We just really enjoy the throwback name for it, honestly. We used to have proper casino names, things like Frank's Lucky Sevens or the Rusty Bandana; now they're all named things like Eternia Resort Spa Casino Experience. Well done, Golden Nugget. (End old man rant.)

    Don't call it a comeback

It's hard to believe that melted cheese ever fell out of fashion around here, but we're about to correct things. The Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant franchise, is returning to Reno after a 15-year absence. The partners behind it are still kicking around ideas for its location; Jason Hidalgo has more .

Speaking of new restaurants, the Guatemalan chicken franchise Pollo Campero wants to open up three restaurants in the immediate area (i.e., Reno, Sparks, possibly Carson City). Jason Hidalgo has the story -- but, if you're like us, you're probably interested in seeing the menu as well.

    The rundown

    Who's winning the internet?

This torch from the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley, which is being auctioned for more than $200,000 . Great for lighting backyard barbecues with a little flair.
