    Night in the Country, Wing Fest, Bass Camp set for festival-filled weekend in Northern Nevada

    In a festival mood this week? You're in luck. Northern Nevada's lineup this week includes celebration of the arts, Shakespeare, country music, electronica and chicken wings, just to name a few. Food Truck Friday is back, and so are the Reno Aces, who will host their annual Star Wars Night on Saturday. Also on the horizon: a decent chance of thunderstorms throughout the week.

    Here's a look at what else is in store this week in Northern Nevada for July 22-28, 2024.

    Northern Nevada events, July 22-28

    Artown, through July 31: Continuing its eclectic mix of art and entertainment, the Artown festival features several artists this year. The list of musicians includes African vocal troupe Ladysmith Black Mambazo (July 23) and hip bluegrass-folk band Steep Canyon Rangers.     Fuego: Salsa & Latin Jazz, July 22: Edgardo Cambon and friends will perform alongside the Reno Philharmonic for this lakefront tribute to salsa and Latin jazz. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe NV State Park, 2005 Highway 28 in Incline Village. Tickets start at $72.     Reno Aces vs. Las Vegas Aviators, July 23-28: The first-place Aces play host to their in-state rivals from Tuesday through Sunday.     Always ... Patsy Cline, July 23-25, 28: Catch this tribute to a country superstar and her long friendship with a fan, told through a lineup of Patsy Cline's greatest hits.     The Merry Wives of Windsor, July 26-27: Sir John Falstaff, short on cash, attempts to woo the wives of two wealthy merchants in this comedy by William Shakespeare.     Night in the Country Nevada, July 25-27: This three-day fest has become one of the go-to events for fans of country, folk and roots-rock. Headliners include Randy Houser, Neal McCoy, Riley Green, Chase Rice, Bailey Zimmerman and Corey Kent. Music starts at 2:30 p.m. each day of the fest at its site, 115 Highway 95-A East in Yerington.     Trace Adkins, July 25: This country singer from Louisiana has balanced an acting career with regular album releases and tours. His big hits include “No Thinkin’ Thing,” “Every Light In The House” and “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk.” He’s back in the area for this show at 7:30 p.m. at TJ’s Corral, Carson Valley Inn, 1627 Highway 395 North, Minden.     Samantha Fish, July 25: Blues, rock, funk and folk all mix in the music of this talented Kansas City, Missouri., guitar player.     Biggest Little City Wing Fest, July 26-27: It's the 10th edition of this celebration of chicken wings in downtown Reno. It runs from 1-10 p.m. on Friday, noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, along Virginia Street between 2nd and 6th. For details, visit caesars.com .

    Food Truck Friday, July 26: This year, Food Truck Friday features a 50-vendor opening night cuisine lineup including American, Mexican, Asian fusion, Southern, Mediterranean, Brazilian and so many more.     The Writhers, July 26: This San Diego band mixes several different styles of punk and straightforward rock for its shock-and-horror-themed music. They headline a packed bill of similarly dark-edged touring and local bands starting at 7 p.m. at Alturas Bar, 1044 E. Fourth St., Reno. There is a $10 cover.     Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, July 26: Hornsby continues to bring jazz and even avant-garde touches to his piano-based roots rock.     Gambler’s Run Music Festival, July 26-28: For its second year, this popular festival has kept its diverse vibe. Headliners include The Wood Brothers, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, The Motet, Donavon Frankenreiter and the duo of Jackie Greene and Karl Denson. It all begins at noon each day in the Crown Room at Crystal Bay Club Casino, 14 State Highway 28, Crystal Bay. Single-day tickets are $45-$65. A three-day pass is $145.     Classical Tahoe, July 26-27: The Classical Tahoe Orchestra performs the work of Berlioz, Rodrigo and Brahms along with guitarist Ana Vidović on July 26, and the music of Prokofiev, Childs and Mendelsson along with saxophonist Steven Banks on July 27.     Shinedown, July 27: This Florida band that mixes alternative and harder rock elements has been a big feature of modern rock radio, with hits such as “Sound of Madness,” “Cut the Cord” and “Monsters.” They return for this show at 7 p.m., Nugget Event Center, Nugget Casino Resort, 1100 Nugget Ave., Sparks.     E-40, July 27: A huge part of the Bay Area music scene, this rapper has been putting out albums and singles for decades.     Bass Camp Festival VII, July 27-28: This two-day dance/electronica event returns, with headliners on Saturday including Gigantic Nightmare, Kill Safari, Marten Horger, San Holo and Wax Motif, while Sunday is headlined by Zeds Dead, Bear Grillz, Herobust, Joyryde and What So Not. Music starts at 3 p.m. both days at Wingfield Park, 2 S. Arlington Ave., Reno. Tickets are $130 for single days or $210 for a two-day pass. Details at basscampfest.com .

    Green Jelly and the Convalescence, July 28: Sonically, these two bands — Green Jelly, a punk-influenced hard rock band, and The Convalescence, a death-metal-meets-prog combo — have zero in common. But visually, they each do theatrical shows that are actually a smart touring package. It all begins at 8 p.m. at Virginia St. Brewhouse, 211 N. Virginia St., Reno. Tickets are $20.     World's Worst, July 28: Yes, the name is goofy, but hear me out on this Utah band with the self-esteem issues. It’s clearly ironic, as this group plays punk-influenced indie at its most energetic, catchy and vibrant, at least among many others keeping this genre alive.     Northern Nevada roadwork, July 22-28

    U.S. 395, Gardnerville: NDOT is resurfacing U.S. 395 through downtown Gardnerville between Waterloo Lane and First Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in either direction; drivers should expect moderate delays. Work is expected to continue through September.

    Steamboat Parkway, south Reno: Crews will expand the stretch of Steamboat Parkway from four lanes to six between Marketplace Drive and Veterans Parkway through November.

    U.S. 395, North Valleys: Ramps to Stead Boulevard (exit 76) and the section of Stead Boulevard underneath U.S. 395 will be closed intermittently overnight through July 18 while NDOT conducts resurfacing work. Drivers on 395 can use exits at Lemmon Drive or North Red Rock Road as a detour, while drivers on Stead Boulevard will be detoured on Silver Lake Road or North Virginia Street.

    Northbound traffic will continue be reduced to two lanes on U.S. 395 through mid-2025 due to NDOT's work to widen U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road. The on-ramp at Panther Valley north of Reno will be closed through late 2024.

    U.S. 395 north of Topaz Lake: Single-lane closures will take place in one-mile sections from the state line to Ray May Way between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays through August as NDOT repaves the roadway. Reduced speed limits will be in place. Drivers should expect travel delays of up to 30 minutes.
