There's a 7.8% chance you're not considered an "active" voter in Nevada, according to the Secretary of State's office, which means you might not receive a sample ballot or mail-in/absentee ballot this fall. Notices have been mailed out to 156,996 voters -- or about 7.8% of the state's overall voter rolls -- to confirm that they're still at that address. Just to put that into perspective, the presidential race in Nevada was decided by less than 34,000 votes.

Anyway, you could respond to the notice, or you could just wait until Election Day to do same-day voter registration, which is probably as smooth of a process as gift shopping on Christmas Day. The Nevada Current's April Corbin Girnus has the details, plus how to check your own registration status online .

Are local restaurants getting cleaner, or did the July 4 holiday put a damper on health inspections? Either way, there were far fewer dining establishments in violation of health codes during the first part of July, and only three outright failures. The most egregious violation? Probably the 85-day-old sausages found in one restaurant's reach-in cooler. We'd say "whatever you do, don't order the sausage" but apparently nobody ordered sausage there anyway for the past several months. Check out the rundown here .

The fight to preserve Lake Tahoe's clarity just reached the Boss Level. A contractor installing a lighted crosswalk nicked a main sewer line, which led to 85,000 gallons being released into the lake. That's right, one five-millionth of Lake Tahoe is now untreated sewage. Tahoe Tessie is slightly miffed. Jaedyn Young has the story .
