    Man convicted of setting ex-girlfriend on fire in Reno sentenced to 70 years in prison

    A man convicted of intentionally setting his ex-girlfriend on fire has been sentenced to the maximum of 70 years in prison.

    Jeremy Chatman, 34, was convicted in a jury trial earlier this year for attempted murder , domestic battery and battery by a parolee resulting in substantial bodily harm, according to a release from the District Attorney's Office.

    Chatman received 8 to 20 years for the attempted murder with a deadly weapon enhancement and 6 to 15 years each for the domestic battery and battery by a parolee charges. He will be eligible for parole in 28 years.

    In December 2021, police responded to an apartment on Selmi Drive in northeast Reno to a report of a woman being set on fire.

    Chatman's 31-year-old ex-girlfriend, who was treated for third-degree burns on her face, head and most of her upper body at the scene, told police Chatman had doused her in gasoline and lit her on fire. The woman was left with burns on nearly half her body, the DA's office said.

    Chatman was on parole after having been released from prison in October 2021. He was serving time in connection to an attempted eluding case.

    Chatman has four prior felony convictions and 19 misdemeanor convictions, the DA's office said.
