On August 13th, at approximately 12:28 PM, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a residential fire in the 800 block of Oak Ave in Bird Island. Emergency crews found the residence fully engulfed in flames. Emergency crews were able to contain the fire, but the residence was deemed a total loss.

Paynesville Man Seriously Injured in Fall at Brookfield Township Farm, Airlifted to Trauma Center
BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP — On August 9, 2024, at 7:56 AM, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a serious injury at a farm in the 45000 block of County Road 11, north of Hector in Brookfield Township, Minnesota. Jerman Lieser, a 35-year-old man from Paynesville, fell approximately 9 feet from a roof, striking his head on a nearby scissor lift.

Man injured in fall from roof near Hector
(Hector MN-) A Paynesville man was seriously injured after falling from a roof near Hector Friday morning. The Renville County Sheriff's Department says 35-year-old Jerman Lieser was working on the roof at a farm site on County Road 11, north of Hector, at 07:56 AM, when he fell about 9 feet from a roof and hit his head on a scissor lift. Lieser suffered serious injuries from the fall and was flown to a trauma center. Assisting at the scene included the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Hector Ambulance, Hector Fire & Rescue, Minnesota State Patrol, and North Memorial Air Care.

Renville County Fair wraps up in Bird Island Friday
(Bird Island MN-) Today is the last day of The Renville County Fair in Bird Island. Alex Lageson and The Big 50 band plays at 430 and the Jake Nelson Band is on at 830. The Kids Celebration The Number 1 Family Game Show is at 130, 330 and 515 and The Demo Derby is in the grandstand starting at 7 p.m. with five different classes or divisions. The animal barns close at 8 and the final cash drawing of the fair is at 10.
Renville County Fair opens Wednesday
(Bird Island MN-) The three-day Renville County Fair opens today at the fairgrounds in Bird Island. Admission is 7 dollars for adults but is only charged from 1 to 10 p.m. Veterans are free on Wednesdays. In the grandstand at 7 is the ATV/MX Rodeo with two youth and 6 adult classes. Entertainment Wednesday includes the Holy Rocka Rollza Band at 530 and Poppa Bear Norton at 9 p.m. Allstar Barnyard Pig Races are at 3, 430 and 630 p.m., kids tractor pedal pull at 4 and at 4 there is also an FFA car show. Hector woman killed in weekend crash in Renville County
(Hector MN-) The Renville County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened Sunday afternoon northeast of Hector. At 3:34 p.m. Sunday they got a 911 call about a one vehicle crash near the intersection of County Road 22 and 850th Avenue, 5 miles northeast of Hector. Emergency responders found a pickup resting on it's top at the bottom of a creek bank, but not in the water. There were two people inside, and emergency crews removed the driver, 40-year-old Nikolaus Beglau of Hector and passenger Katie Dupre, age 36 of Hector. Despite life-saving efforts, Dupre died at the scene. Beglau was flown by air ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center and his current condition is unknown. Investigators believe Beglau had been northbound on County Road 22 when he entered the ditch, went airborne and the pickup landed on it's roof on the opposite side of the creek.
