The 2024-25 Chattooga High School Marching Indians started band camp Monday, July 8 through July 19. With the summer heat, director Gene Greer gave many water breaks amid the setting of the show drill. Atlanta Braves Legend Otis Nixon to hold autograph signing in Statesboro
Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Otis Nixon is coming down to Statesboro for an autograph signing on July 27, 2024 starting at 11am. The event will take place at 8 East Olliff Street right behind the Dairy Queen. The event is hosted by Statesboro Sports and Memorabilia. Attendees will not only have the opportunity to meet the Atlanta legend, but will also be able to come home with some purchased items. Autographs from Nixon will cost $20 each. Prints authenticated by SSM will cost $15, while authentication for other items will cost $5 each. Nixon jerseys will also be on sale for $65 each. Nixon played with the Atlanta Braves from 1991-1993 and again in 1999. He was a key piece in the team's run to the World Series, where they ultimately lost to the New York Yankees. The First Christian Church Of Mableton, HOPE Family Resource Group and Lions Club participated in the 7 Bridges To Recovery food distribution located on Plant Atkinson Road on 7/20/24. They prepared meals and handed them out along with words of loving encouragement to a homeless community in Atlanta. Dan Cathy suspends plans for Midtown connector park over expressway
Doug Hooker, CEO of Connector Park Foundation Inc., issued a statement Tuesday afternoon saying the project was on hold because of a lack of government support. Dan Cathy, chairman of Chick-fil-A, started a foundation for Atlanta’s Connector Park seven years ago. The “bold vision” would have constructed a 12-acre deck over the Downtown Connector between North Avenue and 5th Street in Midtown. It was envisioned to be a community gathering place and feature a venue for live performances.
