The Police Department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) program integrates with the technology in our Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) and enhances the Department’s ability to allocate resources efficiently. DFR pilots can have “eyes on” any call within an average of three minutes anywhere in the city, allowing them to verify the validity of a call for service and potentially mitigate those calls without requiring officer response if unnecessary. It’s important to know that the DFR program is used exclusively in response to calls for service only. Learn more.
20 people displaced after fire at Rancho Cordova apartment complex
RANCHO CORDOVA – Firefighters say an early morning fire at a Rancho Cordova apartment complex could have been a lot worse if not for the quick actions of crews and a neighbor. Metro Fire of Sacramento crews responded to the scene at the Cobblestone Apartments early Tuesday morning and found flames between two buildings. The flames appear to have started in some vegetation and then spread to one building's attic space. Crews were able to limit the damage, stopping the flames before they could spread any further. A neighbor called 911 and woke up his fellow neighbors during the incident, getting them out to safety. "This fire could have been a lot worse. With the vegetation bumping into those units, this fire could have spread through the entire building," said Metro Fire of Sacramento Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn. No injuries have been reported, but about 20 people have been displaced due to the fire. Exactly what started the fire is under investigation.

California 'smash and grab' burglars arrested after string of gun store robberies
Federal authorities Tuesday announced the arrest of six men on suspicion of a nine-month-long smash-and-grab burglary spree targeting gun stores across Southern California. Starting in October 2023, the men — four teenagers and two in their early 20s — are accused of stealing vehicles and then ramming those vehicles into gun stores where they would ransack display cases. The federal indictment alleges that the scheme used other stolen cars as getaway vehicles.
