U.S. Sen. Jim Risch has named Rexburg’s Millhollow as Idaho’s July small business of the month.

“In 1982, Millhollow became southeast Idaho’s first soft-frozen yogurt shop,” Risch said.

Joe Romney, known to some as “Grandpa Joe,” originally opened Millhollow in hopes of instilling a reliable work ethic in his three children. The shop was originally on Carlson Ave. in Rexburg and was moved to S 1st E in 1995.

“Now operated by his son, Aaron, the Rexburg eatery now features salad and sandwiches, and those strong values remain at the center of this outstanding small business,” Risch said.

Aaron and his wife, Connie, who met while working at Millhollow, created a mill-inspired location in 1995, which is what locals see today.

“They hoped to create a mountain-esque sanctuary in downtown Rexburg that was welcoming and unique,” a statement from Millhollow’s website said. “Grandpa Joe left behind a legacy of dedication, hard work, and kindness. This tradition, cherished and built upon by Aaron and Connie, has carried Millhollow through times of great sacrifice and uncertainty.”

Every month Risch selects a small business in Idaho that exemplifies Idaho values such as hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and exceptional commitment to their community.

“Idaho is consistently ranked one of the best places in the country to do business,” a press release from Risch’s team said.

Risch is a senior member and former chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Millhollow will be recognized for this achievement in the Congressional Record of the U.S. Senate.
