    2024-02-26

The Cameron boys basketball team concluded the regular season with a 76-39 win over Ashland on Thursday as senior Tyson Lucas became the Comets’ career scoring leader.

Lucas’ 22 points helped him surpass the Cameron boys’ previous record of 1,480 held by Gunner Wilder from 2018. Lucas now how has 1,487 career points.

“I am super proud and happy for Tyson,” coach Troy LaVallie said. “This is a huge accomplishment and just goes to show you that hard work and dedication pay off. It was a great accomplishment for him and his teammates. Teamwork is what makes basketball such a great sport. Every basket is a team effort and all five guys need to work together to be successful.”

In Thursday’s game the Comets celebrated senior night recognizing Lucas, Kobe Sevals, Brady Quinn, Kory Murray and Tyrise Brooks. Joining Lucas in double figures in the win were Sevals at 14 points, Quinn with 13 and Murray at 10.

Cameron is a No. 2 seed for the playoffs and will begin the postseason Friday at home. Their opponent will be the winner of a Tuesday night matchup between No. 7 Shell Lake and No. 10 Colfax.
