    Baseball: Rice Lake cruises in season-opening wins over Marquette, Mondovi

    The Rice Lake baseball team began its season with two blowout wins at Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston as the Warriors took down Marquette, Michigan, and Mondovi.

    Rice Lake 19, Marquette 2

    The Warriors scored 16 runs in the fourth inning in a dismantling of Marquette on Saturday.

    Twenty-two batters came to the plate in the fourth for the Warriors, who knocked out 10 hits in the frame and drew seven walks. Roux had two hits and four RBIs in just the one inning as he had a two-run double and two run-run single. Easton Stone plated a pair with a double, while Jack Larson and Aaron Hoffman each had two-run singles.

    Stone worked the first three innings, striking out six, walking one and allowing one hit. Gavin Richter entered in relief and gave up two runs on four hits in two innings. He had one strikeout.

    Roux finished the game 3 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Stone had two doubles in a 2 for 3 game with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Out of the ninth spot in the lineup Hoffman was 2 for 3 with three runs driven in and two runs scored. Kalvin Kelsey was also 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Tanner Koltunski scored three runs, while Brady Musil and Wyatt Kunesh each scored twice.

    Rice Lake 13, Mondovi 4

    The Warriors had 12 hits in their win over the Buffaloes, which included an eight-run inning.

    Hoffman, Kunesh and Musil each had two hits. Musil drove in three runs and Kunesh plated two. Koltunski, Stone, Hoffman and Kunesh scored two runs apiece.

    Kelsey got the start on the mound, and he allowed three hits and one run. He walked five but struck out four. Roux pitched 2.1 hitless innings of relief.

    In the first inning the Warriors scored three runs with Kelsey and Kunesh getting RBI singles.

    Three hits and three walks gave Rice Lake extra base runners in the fourth, and Larson had a two-run single in the frame, while Hoffman, Musil and Koltunski added run-scoring hits.
