Cameron High School powerlifting sent a number of athletes to the state and national powerlifting competitions.

On April 4, Alyssa Sagen and Anna Baribeau traveled to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to compete in USA Powerlifting High School Nationals. Both girls placed first in their weight classes at the junior varsity level. Sagen’s best squat was 237 pounds, bench 126.8 pounds, and deadlift 286.6 pounds. Baribeau’s total best lifts were squat 231.5 pounds, bench 132.3 pounds and deadlift 286.6 pounds.

Baribeau and Sagen had both qualified for the national meet by competing in the state meet in Appleton in March. Sagen beat the next closest competitor in her weight class by 66 pounds. Baribeau won her title by deadlifting a personal best on her last lift of the day.

Also competing at state for the Comets were Kierra Schuebel, Taya Jossart, Jacob Meznarich and Garrik Block. All the athletes did well. Meznarich, competing in his first state competition, set a new personal record with a 275-pound deadlift. Sagen set new personal records in all three lifts. Schuebel set a new bench press and squat personal record, Baribeau moved up 13 spots from last year's placing in her second trip to state. Block moved up one spot this year from seventh to sixth and just missed the podium in his second trip to state. Jossart had a tremendous day and ended up on the podium after medaling in fourth place at the 114 pound weight class.
