One Rice Lake resident has publicly announced his desire to fill a seat left vacant on the City Council in the wake of its representative’s election to mayor.

Jeremy Boehme of Royal Crest Drive introduced himself to the City Council on Tuesday during the regular meeting’s public comment period. He said he has an interest in supporting the community and taking care of residents with common-sense proposals.

The District 3 seat became vacant when its representative, Harlan Dodge, won election as Mayor on April 2.

Residents of District 3 who are interested in being appointed to the seat for a term that will run through mid-April 2025 may submit their name to Dodge by calling 715-234-4611 or emailing hdodge@ricelakegov.org. City Clerk-Treasurer Kathleen Morse also will accept nominations. Contact her at 715-234-7089 or kmorse@ricelakegov.org.

The deadline for District 3 residents to submit their names for consideration is 1 p.m. on May 8. Candidates will be asked to address the City Council at its regular May 14 meeting, after which the council will take a vote. The winner will be sworn in that evening and immediately take their seat on the council.

Also during the brief City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, Dodge scheduled a special meeting for 5 p.m. on May 30 for the council to review the Public Safety Building site assessment report.
