    Track and field: Cameron girls win Hayward invite

    The Cameron girls track and field team won six events and took first place at the Hayward Invitational Thursday.

    Lexi Kuffel and Inez Schmidt each won two events, while Anna Baribeau and Lauren Pearson took the top spot once.

    The Cameron boys were fourth as both the 400 and 800 relays took first, and Jax Manor won the triple jump.

    Kuffel improved upon her school record in the 400 meters in finishing the one-lap race in 58.38 seconds. She also took first in 13.35 for the 100 and was second in 26.81 for the 200.

    Schmidt won the 800 in 2:30.57 and the 3,200 in 12:13.29. She was also second after clearing 8 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault. Baribeau had a top toss of 94-10 to win the discus, while Pearson long jumped 16-7.75 to win that event.

    Manor finished atop the triple jump leaderboard after a jump of 38-11. In the boys 400 relay it was Caden Anderson, Cole Peterson and Julien Foster winning in 45.29, while Anderson, Peterson, Mano and Foster were first in 1:35.42 for the 800 relay.

    Pearson was also runner-up for both the 300 hurdles (49.5) and high jump (5-2). Baribeau added a second-place finish for the shot put (29-11) and was third for the 800 (2:38.22), while Jordyn Lundequam was second (13.58) to Kuffel for the 100. Also in second were Hailey Hince in the pole vault (8-6) and Katie Shilts in the triple jump (31-5.5).

    The Comet boys had Golat take runner-up for the 100 in 11.93 and Preston Eldred took second for the 800, finishing in 2:08.6. Colt Mikolon was third for the 300 hurdles (48.49), as was Jaden Reed in the 3,200 (10:51.62) and Tyler Phillips in the discus (123-0).

    The boys 1,600 relay of Manor, Mikolon, Mike Gronski and Eldred was third (3:47.74) as was the girls 800 relay (1:56.1) of Payton Severt, Maddie Severt, Cora Romsos and Pearson.

    Cameron was at the Heart O’ North Conference championships Tuesday in Spooner, and Monday the Comets travel to Webster for a Division 3 regional.
