Middle school to host Armed Forces Day program

Armed Forces Day, a time to pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces, is Saturday, and a half-hour program will be held at Rice Lake Middle School on Friday to mark the occasion.

The program begins at 8:30 a.m., when the color guard will post the flags and the Pledge of Allegiance will be recited.

A speaker will tell the audience about the significance of Armed Forces Day, and a fifth-grade student will give a speech on the flag.

The eighth-grade choir and band will perform patriotic songs.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish the holiday so U.S. citizens could unite to honor military heroes for their service to their country.

The public is welcome to attend.
